Three young women scarred by family trauma regain the courage to redefine love.
University student MIYATA Hiiro (MINAMI Sara) is living what she calls a “crappy” life. Outside of school, she spends most of her time doing housework and working part-time at a convenience store to cover both her tuition and the household expenses left to her by her spendthrift single mother (KAWAI Aoba). Though her mother is neither violent nor verbally abusive, Hiiro feels trapped by what she calls “love” — her mother’s curse.
Her life begins to shift after she meets her classmate and co-worker, ENAGA Miyabi (BABA Fumika), whose style is boldly flashy and unconventional. Rumour has it that Miyabi is the daughter of a murderer. Hiiro starts to recognise that Miyabi’s pain is similar to her own — but Miyabi’s dark and loveless childhood does not end there.
Their growing friendship deepens when they get to know KIMURA Akua (HONDA Miyu), another classmate suffering psychological abuse from an overbearing mother. To her mother’s dismay, Akua is a devoted follower of a cult religion and tries to introduce Hiiro and Miyabi to the world of calm and affection the group claims to offer…What fate awaits the three young women bound together by the name of love?
Written and directed by rising filmmaker IGASHI Aya, and based on the novel by TAKEDA Ayano, this masterpiece explores issues of toxic parenting, abuse, and neglect — all framed within the complex bonds of love. At the same time, it highlights the strength and resilience of young women, free from the shackles of pity.PT1H49M152026-03-14
