Filmhouse is an organisation committed to accessibility and inclusivity, offering a range of programmes and activities designed to include everyone, as well as working hard to make our building accessible to the widest possible community. Located within a 200-year-old listed building, we acknowledge that there are certain limitations to the level of access we can sometimes provide. We have actively attempted to remove barriers wherever possible, and welcome feedback on what we can improve.
Our main entrance and Box Office are located on the ground floor, accessible via a ramped, electronically assisted entrance door from Lothian Road. An accessible toilet is available on the same level, and there is a ramp connecting the Box Office area to the Filmhouse Bar. Screen 1 is on the first floor of Filmhouse and is accessible via passenger lift, whilst Screens 2, 3 and 4, as well as a second accessible toilet, are accessible via a platform lift which is located on the ground floor. The additional platform lift that was once required to access Screen 2 has now been removed, with a level entrance to that screen now being in place.
All of our screens have accessible seating and spaces for wheelchair users. Our seats have fixed armrests, 580mm between armrests, and are joined together. Wheelchair users have the option of booking a space for their wheelchair, or of booking a seat that they can then transfer into (details below).
Screen 1 has space for two wheelchairs at the front of the screen.
Screen 2 has one wheelchair space at the front of the screen.
Screen 3 has one wheelchair space at the back of the screen.
If you intend to transfer from a wheelchair into a cinema seat, please let our staff know when booking so that we can find a seat that best matches your requirements.
Tickets for wheelchair spaces and free companion tickets are available to customers with an Access Account, and are not visible to guest users. You can set up an Access Account by emailing us at info@filmhouse.org.uk. Once registered, you will be able to book wheelchair spaces and companion tickets online. You will also have the option to receive updates about accessible screenings. We also participate in the CEA card scheme, through which you can book a free ticket for your companion at any participating cinema in the UK. For further information on the CEA card, please visit www.ceacard.co.uk.
We have two accessible toilets: one is located next to our box office on the ground floor and one is in the corridor leading to Screens 2, 3 and 4, which is accessible via the stairs or our platform lift. There are toilets located upstairs.
The changing places toilet closest to Filmhouse is located at Johnnie Walker, a 6 minute walk away on Princes Street.
Filmhouse Bar staff are happy to assist customers with any access requirements and are able to supply detailed allergy and ingredient information to customers.
