Access

Our cinema is located within a 200-year-old listed building, and though we try where we can, we do acknowledge that our building is not the most practical for people with access requirements.

Getting around the Building

Our main entrance and Box Office are both on the ground floor, which is accessible via a ramped, electronically assisted entrance door from Lothian Road. Our accessible toilet is also at this level, and there is a ramp from the Box Office area to the Filmhouse Bar. Screen 1 is on the first floor of Filmhouse and is accessible via passenger lift, whilst Screens 2, 3 and 4, as well as a second accessible toilet, are accessible via a platform lift which is located on the ground floor. The additional platform lift that was once required to access Screen 2 has now been removed, with a level entrance to that screen now being in place.

Accessible Seats & Booking Process

All of our screens have step-free seating at the front of the screen, and spaces for wheelchair users. Wheelchair users have the option of booking a space for their wheelchair (a cinema seat will be removed to accommodate you), or of booking a seat that they can then transfer into (details below).

Screen 1 has space for two wheelchairs at the front of the screen.

Screen 2 has one wheelchair space at the front of the screen.

Screen 3 has one wheelchair space at the back of the screen.

If you intend to transfer from a wheelchair into a cinema seat, please let our staff know when booking so that we can find a seat that best matches your requirements. If you specifically require tickets for the wheelchair spaces available in our cinemas, you can buy tickets for these spaces in person at our Box Office by contacting us on Tel. 0131 228 2688. We can set you up with an Access Account which will allow you to book wheelchair and companion seats, book free companion tickets, and get updates on accessible screenings and events.

Alternatively please get in touch with us by email at info@filmhouse.org.uk, letting us know your contact details and the name, date and time of the screening you wish to attend. We will contact you to make your booking. You can also call us on 0131 228 2688 to arrange your booking with a member of the Box Office team.

If you require a companion to facilitate your visit to the cinema, we offer free places. These tickets can be booked when you buy your own ticket. We participate in the CEA card scheme where you can get a free ticket for your companion at any participating cinema in the UK. For further information on the CEA card, please visit www.ceacard.co.uk.

Accessible Toilets Facilities

We have two accessible toilets, one next to our box office on the ground floor and one in the Screens 2, 3 and 4 corridor, which is accessible via stairs or platform lift. They are both gender neutral. There are two gendered toilets upstairs, either side of Screen 1.

Filmhouse Bar Assistance

Filmhouse Bar staff are happy to assist customers with any access requirements and are able to supply detailed allergy and ingredient information to customers.
