Widely celebrated as one of cinema’s greatest visionaries, Andrei Tarkovsky redefined cinema as a profound, spiritual art. Favouring hypnotic long takes, metaphysical themes, and stunning natural imagery to explore memory, faith, and human existence, he famously referred to his craft as "sculpting in time".

His iconic works – including Andrei Rublev, Solaris, and Stalker – are recognized for their dreamlike, highly poetic imagery and philosophical depth and whilst he only made seven feature films, his uncompromising style deeply transformed world cinema and influenced a generation of filmmakers, most notably Béla Tarr, Andrei Zviagintsev, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, and even Christopher Nolan.

In this retrospective, his later works – Nostalgia and The Sacrifice (the first to be made outside of Russia and now rereleased in 4K restorations) - will play first, followed by his earlier Russian films in September.
