He is universally liked for his kindness and classy manner - even by police inspector Ledru. However, Bob's luck leaves him, and he begins to lose friends and control over his life. He eventually makes the most desperate gamble of all, but the chips are stacked against him... Jean-Pierre Melville's film noir gambling heist drama is considered to be a precursor to the French New Wave movement, largely down to its use of handheld camera and one solitary jump cut. In fact, cinematographer Henri Decaë's (who also worked on Melville's <i>Le Samouraï</i>) work on <i>Bob le Flambeur</i> caught the eye of those Cahiers du Cinéma critics that formed the Nouvelle Vague movement, eventually leading to him working with them, including on Truffaut's <i>The 400 Blows</i>.DramaPT1H43MPG2026-02-08Roger Duchesne
