The majority of the film was shot in Lancashire's Camforth railway station which was specially chosen for its distance from major cities, which allowed them to bypass blackout rules and begin filming before the end of World War Two in 1945! Bored suburban housewife Laura Jesson is heading home from a shopping trip to a neighbouring town when she encounters virtuous doctor Alec Harvey, with whom she strikes up a casual acquaintance. This friendship, over a course of weekly visits, develops quickly into a more emotionally involved and fulfilling relationship than either would've imagined - the pair must grapple with the chaos this deepening connection may have both in their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Dr Malgorzata Bugaj is a Film and Media Studies Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Open Learning where she teaches short open-access courses, such as Cinema and the Five Senses or Women Directors in Focus. She is a researcher at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities exploring the intersection of film and medical humanities. She also works as a freelance curator, organising film events in Edinburgh and beyond.DramaPT1H26MPG2025-12-07
