Wiseman observes the myriad different ways citizens use the park, taking in the pomp and circumstance of a speech from former Mayor Koch, contrasting concerts from Australian rockers Midnight Oil and operatic tenor legend Pavarotti, the joy of the Gay Parade, and documenting the many picnics, sports, and meditations participated in by groups and individuals dotted around Central Park's massive area. This observational first half of the documentary gives way to the business side of things, as Wiseman details the many complications and issues the New York City Parks Department face to keep the park in good shape and keep it open so the public can continue to make use of the space in the many ways we've just witnessed. Central Park invites the viewer to laugh at themselves, while reflecting on how their actions relate to others and the space they are in.DocumentaryPT2H56M12A2026-01-24
