Stanwyck and her co-stars were so taken with Monroe's work on the film that they fought for her to be given star billing, leading to Clash by Night being the first film to feature Monroe's name before the title. The production was beset by a number of drawbacks including script changes, hounding from journalists following Monroe's nude calendar "scandal", and the naming of Odets by Elia Kazan in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee - thankfully, the film still made it to release and remains a vital touchstone in Monroe's career.
DramaPT1H45MPG2026-07-31
