Director Agnès Varda mixes a direct documentary cinema style with melodrama to create a vivid image of the French capital in the sixties that is in turn delightfully funny and poignantly heartfelt. Cléo from 5 to 7 has received much critical acclaim, especially in recent years. In Sight and Sound's decennial Critics' Poll of the Greatest Films of All Time, the film first appeared in 2002 in 289th, before climbing to 207th in 2012, and finally skyrocketing to 14th place in the most recent poll in 2022, being the third highest film directed by a woman in the list. In 2019, Cléo was also voted as the second-greatest film directed by a woman in a worldwide BBC poll of film critics, only placing behind Jane Campion's Palme d'Or winning tale of Scottish emigrants to New Zealand, The Piano.DramaPT1H30MPG2026-02-05
