DJ Allan "Dicky" Bird (Bill Paterson), recently dumped, spots an attractive girl (Clare Grogan) working in an ice cream van and decides to buy a cone. Suddenly, a trio of men wielding baseball bats attack the van, with Allan looking on. He now finds himself in the middle of a fierce rivalry, which naturally leads to further misadventures - and some gradually escalating damage to his beloved car...</div></div><div><br></div><div><i>Local Hero</i> and <i>Gregory's Girl</i> director Bill Forsyth was inspired to make <i>Comfort and Joy</i> in equal parts by the new phenomenon of local radio DJs, and Peter Capaldi telling him the story of Glasgow's Ice Cream Wars.
