<div>Nafisa is a teenager in a Sudanese cotton-farming village, brought up on heroic tales of battles against British colonisers passed down from her grandmother Al-Sit, the village matriarch. However, the arrival of a young businessman from abroad shakes her life up, as his new development plan and genetically engineered cotton results in Nafisa becoming the centre of a power play that will shape the future to come for the village. Realising the power that she holds, Nafisa sets out to save both the cotton fields and herself - nothing will be the same again for her or her village.</div><div><br></div><div><i>Cotton Queen </i>received its world premiere in the Critics Week section of the Venice International Film Festival's 2025 edition, before going onto win the Golden Alexander for Best Feature Film at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
