I discovered him because my favorite directors are the Coen Brothers, and their favorite director is him. This film is one of his most underrated; a screwy, comic examination of ego, jealousy, and toxic masculinity that takes Rex Harrison's debonair image and turns it on his head. A brilliant use of score and sound to tell the story of a plotting conductor, the movie is a very slow build that dramatically constructs a man's hasty thoughts to one of the funniest and mose exciting climaxes – truly an incredible payoff. August keeps an eye on her through the services of a private detective - when the sleuth reports back that Daphne may be going behind Sir Alfred's back with his secretary, the conductor begins to dream of how he will orchestrate his revenge...</div><div><br></div><div>Preston Sturges is credited with elevating the screwball comedy to another level during the 1940s. However, his <i>Unfaithfully Yours</i> didn't receive much demand for an encore at the box office on release, largely due to a scandal that pushed back its release involving the untimely death of actress Carole Landis, who was rumoured to be having an affair with the film's lead Rex Harrison. Since then though, the film has been critically appraised, with The New Yorker's Pauline Kael calling it "One of the most sophisticated slapstick comedies ever made", Quentin Tarantino placing the film at number 9 in his top 11 movies of all time, and our host for this evening, Demi Adejuyigbe, calling it a "masterpiece... like Stupid Hitchcock"!</div>ComedyPT1H45M152026-08-08USenRex Harrison
