Eagles of the Republic
Egypt's most revered actor, George Fahmy, is forced into starring in a government-commissioned propaganda film about the country's president. Once he reluctantly agrees to take the role, Fahmy becomes surrounded by the powers that be - the allure of the inner circle proves irresistible, and he embarks on an affair with the secretive wife of the general in charge of the project. <i>Eagles of the Republic</i> is the final instalment in Tarik Saleh's Cairo trilogy and fourth collaboration with leading actor Fares Fares, and is inspired by real life actor Yasser Galal who portrayed Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and later was nominated as one of 100 presidential appointees to the Egyptian Senate. With Saleh being exiled from Egypt with persona non grata status and actor Amr Waked exiled in Spain under threat of an eight year prison sentence, both for being outspoken against el-Sisi, filming took place in Istanbul to stand in for Cairo. However, an unnamed crew member managed to shoot b-roll footage from a car in the Egyptian capital, grounding the film once more in the political climate of the country.ThrillerPT2H8M152026-05-22Fares Fares
