Funeral Parade of Roses

This screening is part of Lavender Lens, our queer film strand created in collaboration with the Lavender Menace Queer Books Archive and Programmed with Pride. Selected by the Lavender Lens Queer Community Programming Group to celebrate Trans History Week (4-10 May), Funeral Parade of Roses is a queer re-telling of the Oedipus myth, centred around the adventures of a transgender bar hostess. Allegedly an inspiration for Kubrick’s visual style in A Clockwork Orange, Matsumoto’s film is an assault of experimental and narrative techniques which defies formal conventions and emerges as an utterly unique vision. Funeral Parade of Roses can be comfortably placed into a number of film categories – cult, gay, psychedelic, punk, political or experimental. It qualifies as a classic in all of them.DramaPT1H45M152026-05-12
