Alex (Will Arnett) and Tess (Laura Dern) approach the end of their marriage amicably, and begin to process the awkwardness of divorce. Facing middle age, Alex looks for a new lease of life in the New York comedy scene, while Tess reflects on the sacrifices that she made for her family. All the while. both of them navigate co-parenting their two boys, their identity with and without each other, and questions of what forms love can take - and can it be renewed? <i>Is This Thing On?</i> sees Bradley Cooper direct and star in a film born from one of the more unlikely sources for Hollywood - the real life and career of Liverpudlian comedian and British panel show favourite John Bishop.
