This screening will have a short 5-minute introduction and will be followed by a 30-minute presentation and workshop (Reclaiming our Spaces, Re-imagining our Narratives) with Theo Panagopoulos.
A sci-fi documentary that follows the rise and fall of Lyd — a 5,000-year-old metropolis that was once a bustling Palestinian town until it was conquered when the State of Israel was established in 1948. As the film unfolds, a chorus of characters creates a tapestry of the Palestinian experience of this city and the trauma left by the massacre and expulsion.
Reclaiming our Spaces, Re-imagining our Narratives is a relaxed writing workshop following the screening of the film Lyd at Filmhouse as part of Doc Screen. Finding inspiration in Lyd's decolonial narrative which uses the tools of documentary and speculative future in reimagining Palestine beyond occupation as well as Filmhouse's recent opening after 2 years of closure, we reflect on how the power of documentary can activate our spaces to rethink and rewrite our futures. This writing workshop will be led by Greek-Palestinian filmmaker and PhD researcher Theo Panagopoulos. No previous writing experience is necessary, just your dream of a free and just future for the spaces we occupy.
Theo Panagopoulos is a Glasgow-based filmmaker, curator and doctoral researcher with a focus on film archives from 1930s Palestine. His films have won major awards at IDFA, Sundance, London Short Film Festival and Go Short, he has been selected as a European Film Academy candidate for 2026 and also has been nominated for a 2025 BAFTA award for Best British Short Film. His creative and academic work explore anti-colonial, participatory and archival methodologies around themes of collective memory, fragmented identities and displacement.
