Toronto musicians Matt and Jay, better (or not) known as Nirvanna the Band, have been a duo together for seventeen years. In hopes of getting a gig at the Rivoli, Matt plans their biggest publicity stunt yet - of course, this goes wrong, and the duo end up accidentally travelling back to the year of their formation in 2008.

Matt Johnson (writer-director of The Dirties, Blackberry and the to-be-released Anthony Bourdain biopic Tony) and Jay McCarrol began their webseries Nirvanna the Band the Show in late 2007, before creating a TV series of the same name in 2017. Playing fictionalised versions of themselves, the pair have always been trying to play a show at the Rivoli, but have never written or recorded a song, or indeed contacted anyone at the venue. It's easy to see why all three of the webseries, TV series, and now this film have garnered instant cult followings around the world - including a sold out UK premiere at the 2026 Glasgow Film Festival - but you won't need to have seen the series to have a blast as the anarchic pair try to find their way back home.
ComedyPT1H40M152026-07-31
