But his clandestine life is unveiled when the beautiful and mysterious Gaby compels him to risk his life and leave his past behind. Near universally acclaimed and inspiring films such as English author Graeme Greene's screenplay for The Third Man and arguably Casablanca, which was released a few years later with more than a few similarities, Pépé le Moko brings a certain French poetic realism to the thriller, film noir genres. It was remade in America in 1938 as Algiers, which was in turn remade ten years later into the Tony Martin-starring movie musical Casbah. In fact, if you thought the name was familiar, the 1938 remake (which maintains the protagonist's moniker) is credited with being the inspiration for Looney Tunes character Pepé Le Pew!DramaPT1H34MPG2026-04-26
