“I remember and will continue to remember them”. Following the discovery of an unknown archive detailing the testimonies of Mapuche prisoners violently expelled from their lands during the military invasions that founded Argentina and Chile, activist and researcher Margarita embarks on a moving journey to retrace the deportation routes of her ancestors. Guided by the diary of Katrulaf, an indigenous Mapuche prisoner of war, Margarita unveils a multitude of atrocities committed against her ancestors, whose historical struggle has been silenced for over a century. Through a blend of archival material and sweeping, present-day footage captured by director Paula Rodríguez Sickert, Relentless Memory is an emotional journey that gives voice to a displaced people and their memories.
Short film: See It, Say It, Draw It (U) (José Luis Cote, United Kingdom, 2024, 12 minutes) (Scottish Premiere)
This short film explores themes of identity and cultural transmission through the way we perceive and interact with our surroundings, highlighting the role of imagination in this process. Through the simple practice of drawing ethnographic objects at the Manchester Museum, it reflects on how we gain knowledge, understanding and a sense of self by seeing, collecting, categorizing, naming and creating. As participants sketch artefacts from distant cultures, the film poses vital questions about belonging, cultural transmission, and the ethics of museum collections. Can we truly grasp the lives behind these objects? What is lost in translation - and what might be found through artful attention? Blending anthropology and personal reflection, See It, Say It, Draw It is a quiet meditation on presence, perception, and the layered stories objects carry across time and place.DocumentaryPT1H33M122025-09-11
