Rental Family
Set against modern-day Tokyo, <i>Rental Family</i> follows an American actor (Brendan Fraser) who struggles to find purpose until he lands an unusual gig: working for a Japanese "rental family" agency, playing stand-in roles for strangers. As he immerses himself in his clients’ worlds, he begins to form genuine bonds that blur the lines between performance and reality. Confronting the moral complexities of his work, he rediscovers purpose, belonging, and the quiet beauty of human connection. <i>Rental Family</i> is director Hikari's first film since her feature debut <i>37 Seconds</i> in 2019 - however, in the meantime she directed three episodes of critically acclaimed TV series <i>BEEF</i>. The film won the director the Breakthrough Director Award at the Virginia Film Festival and the Spotlight Award at the Chicago International Film Festival, while Brendan Fraser is nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the 9th Astra FIlm Awards for his performance as down-on-his-luck actor Phillip Vandarploeug.DramaPT1H50M12A2026-01-16Brendan Fraser
