Runa Simi + Sing Along

The screening will be introduced by Mercedes Sullca, president and founder of Association of Peruanos in Scotland, and co-founder and vice-director of the Latin American Community Association of Edinburgh (L.A.C.A.E), followed by a sing-a-long to The Lion King’s Hakuna Matata in Quechua! Language is important. It’s how we communicate and connect with each other, how we tell our stories. Join us for a special screening event of Runa Simi, a powerful call to action for Indigenous representation and language justice. Fernando, a Peruvian voice actor, embarks on a daring quest to persuade Disney to dub The Lion King into Quechue, hoping to save his native language - only to discover that the journey becomes a deeply personal odyssey of fatherhood and activism, with his 8-year old son, Dylan, by his side. Fernando navigates countless ups and downs, facing rejection, setbacks, and self-doubt. Yet through it all, his determination never wavers, turning his personal mission into a powerful call for language justice and cultural reclamation. The Latin American Community Association of Edinburgh is a charity that aims to share and preserve all aspects of the culture of the Latin American community in Edinburgh and across Scotland – such as gastronomy, music, dance and language. This screening is part of Doc Screen, an initiative run by Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) in partnership with Filmhouse. Supported by Film Hub Scotland, part of the BFI’s Film Audience Network, awarding funding on behalf of Screen Scotland and the BFI National Lottery.DocumentaryPT1H21MPG2025-11-29
