Many filmmakers have cited the film as one of their favourites, including Nouvelle Vague director Richard Linklater (quelle surprise!), Steven Spielberg, Wes Anderson, and Akira Kurosawa, who called it "one of the most beautiful films that [he had] ever seen". The coming-of-age drama took home the Best Director award for Truffaut at its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, also being nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards, and is in the top ten of the British Film Institute's list of 50 films to see by the age of 15. Antoine Doinel (a semi-autobiographical character for Truffaut) is a young Parisian child who faces trial after tribulation through his life, dealing with uncaring adults and his neglectful parents. With his best friend Rene, Antoine dreams and plans a better life than this - however, he ends up on the wrong side of the law after one of their schemes goes wrong. All that's in store now for Antoine are more and more stand-offs with inconsiderate adults in positions of power.DramaPT1H39MPG2026-01-31
