S!nk are honoured and overjoyed to return to the all-new Filmhouse for this very special live performance of their original multi-instrumental score to Lotte Reiniger’s classic 1926 feature length paper cut animation.
Swirling, spiralling strings, saxophones, accordion, percussion and voice transport you to a world of conjurors and princesses, where Aladdin battles demons and nothing is as it seems. The score was originally commissioned by Filmhouse who collaborated with S!nk to tour the Highlands and Islands to critical acclaim. It's great to be home again.
Intriguingly, the film stock on which this extraordinarily inventive work was originally crafted was gifted to the filmmaker by her husband’s friend, a Berlin banker who had bought it as an investment, only to discover that it would soon degrade and become obsolete. Trust artists to make the most of the medium! The result is priceless. A joy for all ages.
Doors open, projectors fired up, let the music play!
‘Mesmerising score...exquisitely beautiful...Sink’s composition is as clever as their artistry is brilliant.' The HeraldAnimationPT1H6MPG2025-06-28
