The Incomer
Set on a remote Scottish island, two siblings survive by hunting seabirds, retelling the stories of their ancestors, and defending the isle from dreaded "Incomers". Their world is upended with the arrival of an awkward council worker who has come to uproot them from their homeland.<div><br></div><div>Directed by former Filmhouse usher Louis Paxton and starring a fantastically Scottish-accented Domhnall Gleeson, an at-once hilarious and profound pair of performances from Gayle Rankin and Grant O'Rourke, the as-always imperious Michelle Gomez and an, ahem, unrecognisable John Hannah, <i>The Incomer </i>opened the 79th Edinburgh International Film Festival to rave reviews after its January premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. Think <i>Local Hero </i>meets <i>The Ballad of Wallis Island</i> with a sprinkling of <i>The Banshees of Inisherin</i>.
