Albert Camus’s classic of existential literature (L'Étranger), which follows an apathetic Frenchman as his daily routine is disrupted by his mother's passing and a fateful event on a beach, is brought thrillingly to life in the latest from French master François Ozon (8 Women, Swimming Pool), who brings a contemporary gaze to this enigmatic story of disaffection in 1930s colonial Algeria.
The Stranger was nominated for the Golden Lion at its world premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, and took home Lumière Awards for Best Film, Best Actor for Benjamin Voisin as main character Meursault, and Best Cinematography for Manuel Dacosse. Alongside Voisin stars some familiar faces from Filmhouse favourites, including Pierre Lottin (The Marching Band) and Swann Arlaud (Anatomy of a Fall, The Great Arch, Arco) with Rebecca Marder and Denis Lavant.DramaPT2H2M152026-04-10
