Frederick Wiseman's debut documentary is a graphic and harrowing depictions of how inmates at the State Prison for the Criminally Insane at Bridgewater, Massachusetts were treated by guards, social workers, and psychiatrists at the institution, and what conditions existed there at the time. Titicut Follies, named for a talent show the prison staff put on, was censored by Massachusetts courts following its New York Film Festival premiere from 1968 to 1991, and has been preserved in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as of 2022, proving Wiseman's ability to dig to the core of important topics with his camera was in abundance from the start of his career.DocumentaryPT1H24M152026-01-10
