Rip It Up: Find Your Own Way

“That’s the point. This is a coming together of all different people…” - Mark, Pride (2014).

Over the summer, a group of beautifully different people were brought together to create a relatable and powerful programme of films that explore the youth of the UK as they rip up the system and find their own way in this strange and confusing world. Throughout the summer, we watched a collection of films we hadn’t yet seen, but continued to find ourselves in as the themes and emotions were ever present and relatable to us.

In the last few weeks of the course we put together a nine week program of these films, ranging from the witty humour of Pride (2014) to the Mods and Rockers of Quadrophenia (1979), but that all follow the theme of burning down tradition and carving your own path through the rubble.

If you’re a teenager trying to find yourself on screen, an adult wanting to relive the time of your life, or even a goldfish yearning for the human experience, you’ll find what you’re looking for on our big screen as tickets for Rip It Up: Find Your Own Way are now on sale. We welcome you to join us in watching these films that have worked their way into our hearts and become a staple of recommendation.

These films are showing as part of the BFI’s Rip It Up season of films celebrating youth culture and coming of age in the UK, programmed by young people across Edinburgh. Supported by funding from the BFI delivered through Film Hub Scotland.

Book tickets for two or more of our Rip It Up: Find Your Own Way films in the same transaction to receive a discount!
